Thai Music: Terrific Or Terrible?
Image by godchased via FlickrAs I’ve mentioned many times, the whole Thai culture (at least down here in the South) is awash with noise, also known as Thai music.
Now, some of it of course, is rather good, if not brilliant.
Some of it appears to hammer your eardrums… Emitted from a huge speakers on passing vehicles, the sounds reach through brick walls and can be heard kilometers away. They are apparently advertising something that everyone needs to know about…
Or it might be just your next door neighbor who wants to pump up his favorite songs. And his neighbor too. And the family next to that…
Then there’s local music bars, clubs, cafes and a couple of those massive TV screens that exist to show football adventures in extreme detail.
But wait! What about festivities? Think Thai music and dancers, a super-high decibel limit, and let’s tweak up the treble and the bass. And then we’ll mix it all together into a wall of sound so that all can enjoy the Thai experience.
This is how the Thais must like their Thai music.
Loud and lots of it.
I still recommend you visit Thailand, because it’s a wonderful country. You might, though, want to bring noise canceling headphones or earplugs…
And I’ll SEE you here soon.
This Is Why You Want To Travel To Thailand

Why travel to Thailand? Well, there’s many good reasons. And one reason in particular that I notice over and over in my travels around Southern Thailand is what I call the ‘beautiful friendliness’ of the Thai people. It sure is an amazing gift. Of course, not everyone is warm and welcoming, but generally speaking, I’m often welcomed into families (and Thai homes) as if I was a family member…
What I mean by that is that I’m made to feel at home pretty much wherever I go. And to be honest, I also do get the same questions over and over again… which is probably why my Thai language has become so good. (This shows you the power of repetition learning). And believe me, Southern Thai ain’t exactly spoken slowly down these parts!
The Thai people in general seem to have a nice, natural curiosity. There’s hardly a burden of seriousness anywhere to be seen. And when you do see it, it’s quite noticeable… maybe because it’s so rare… In fact, if a Thai person is serious, they might just tell you they are. It’s quite sweet. My first reaction is to think ‘why’s that?‘
But why travel to Thailand? Well, that ‘beautiful friendliness’ which is truly a gift of greatness, is a great reason to come. This is me saying this… I’m from Australia, and we’re known as a pretty laid back race of folks too. And, well the bird sounds are particularly remarkable, and everything grows about 2 feet a day. Or is that two meters?
Travel to Thailand? There’s thousands of good reasons why… and we’ll talk about it again soon… but I know you’ll love it, for sure.

I can’t really generalize and say every Thai person is friendly.
But, it sure does feel like that sometimes.
It rubs off on you.
It’s definitely something in the water.

Thinking retirement Thailand?

Would you consider retirement Thailand?
You’d have to seriously consider all aspects to it…
Thailand has a lot of good things going for it.
Some great resorts, a relaxed lifestyle, healthy food.
Charming people.
Low cost of living.
Can be very hot (tropical) and stormy.
The question really is…
Where would you live?
Go beach, or go mountain.
Or go inland…
Food for thought…
.
Thailand living costs…

Thailand living costs:
Simple quick meal @ local shop 30 baht (0.94 US)
Mama noodles (one pack fills you up) 5 baht (O.16 US)
(Not exactly nutritious though…
Fill tank petrol on motorcycle (150cc) 200 baht ($6.24 US)
Internet high speed broadband one month 700 baht ($21.84 US)
House rental depends on what you want. Average Thai,
about 2000 baht per month ($62.41 US)
Taking a guess (average Westerner) house rent per month 4500 baht ($140 US)
Electricity bill for one month 397 baht ($12.39 US)
Compare this to your country…

A Thai girl walk in the park

I am now asking myself what was I on to accept this blogging challenge.
It’s not exactly a walk in the park. (Or backyard).
To write a post every 30 minutes is, um, challenging…
Plus pull a photo out that I want to show you.
Edit the photo, find what theme to write about.
By the time you’ve done a post, it’s almost time to write another.
But the cause IS good.
So that makes it all worth while.
And you get to check out the great Thailand photos…
.
Hot waterfalls, cold floods

Can’t remember when I last saw a sunny day…
Only kidding.
It’s just that when it rains, it pours.
Here in Southern Thailand, for sure.
And when it pours, it floods.
And when it floods, people move their homesbelongings, to higher ground.
In Hat Yai, a small city 2 hours South East of here,
I recall it raining super heavy, for 30 minutes. Then,
I watched as the streets turned into rivers…
It was a freaky experience.
Roll on.
.
Thai classroom insights

It’s nice to be back (so soon).
Here’s us taking a quick look in a Thai primary school room…
Relaxed style. Take a seat under the desk.
I have all the time in the world for these kiddies.
It’s a culture shock if you ever teach in a Thai classroom.
But I’ve heard some Westerners quite enjoy it.
I hope they (the students) all get the opportunity to learn English…
I really do.
.
Real life Thai lifestyle (part 2)

Man, the time moves fast when you’re having fun…
You’ve taken a few breaths and it’s time to post again.
That’s the beauty of it I guess…
I’m starting to think about… some sort of sponsorship…
just an idea… for Thai people I know…
They could really do with some practical ideas to make
money… and online seems like the way to go…
Some sort of simple little system that works… is not
too difficult… even if they could earn Adsense it would
help them so much…
Food for thought.
And this photo is a couple of friends who came to visit…
Nice.
.
And why live in Thailand? (part 1)

Let’s face it. It’s a noisy country. Incredibly laid back. No one seems particularly bothered by anything in particular…
I’d like to talk about world events with the Thai people I meet, but hardly ever do so. That might be me. Or just this culture.
And indeed it is loud. The lifestyle is loud. The people can speak loudly, the trucks and motorcycles always snarl their presence in the distance, and then there’s the music…
Don’t ask me about the music.
But I got thinking about what it was that attracted me to this country and the word that came to mind was ‘loose.’
Everyone goes about their business, but there’s still an easiness factor there. They don’t seem to be too overly serious about world issues. It’s just the way it is.
In all honestly, we can learn a lot from the way that the Thai people go about their life. It’s fascinating… you gotta admire them for it…
Anyways… this is the first post in my 4 hour blogathon… the time in Thailand is around 5 pm SAT… I’ll continue this mini blogging for the next 4 hours…
Do tune in, and click through on the logo below if you feel like donating… it’s a good cause…
Oh and by the way, I’ll throw in some great and unusual Thai lifestyle photos as well…

message every 30 minutes… for the next 4 hours.
What’s the MINI-Blogathon and why blog for four hours straight?
No. 1: I never do anything like this, so it’s probably a good time to start.
No. 2: To raise awareness about congenital heart disease and
collect donations to sponsor heart surgery for poor children.

Thailand webcam boy YouTube!
Good news for all.
YouTube is back online for users here in Thailand.
That just means we can go to the YouTube site and watch videos and put up our own videos.
Thanks to whoever made that happen…
And here’s something else. Sorry but it’s not a Thailand webcam girl video.
It’s a Thailand webcam Hurley video…
How to meet Thai girls, quickly!
I’ve been spending a good deal of time with this great Thai girl who’s quite fond of saying the word “hot.” (In Thai, of course).
Now, I think she’s talking about herself being hot. As in, right now “I need to relax because I’m feeling hot.” Or, maybe the weather’s hot.
Whatever it is, it’s hot.
It’s funny. She’ll have ice cool water while I’m sipping hot English tea. Now with Thailand’s warm, tropical weather, an ice cool drink makes common sense, right? But for me, well, I prefer the tea.
-> But explain this…
Why on earth do Thai people like to eat so much spicy-hot-food in an always-hot-climate?
Don’t know? Me either. But let’s clarify a few things here.
The weather is NOT always super warm down here in the far South West of Thailand. Yes, sometimes it is rather amazingly cold…
And when I say ‘hot food’ I really mean it. Chilli so hot that it fuses your mouth out, and your face turns into a little river of sweatlets. Your eyes run, and you cry, but not over anything sad.
So… I’ve got theories as to why Thai people like their spicy food, but right now I’ll urge you to try to work out that one for yourself…
By the way, maybe one just adjusts to the climate. To me, it’s not too hot. (Perhaps it’s all the moisture in the air). In fact, Australia seemed to be much hotter (with a dry heat), especially in summer.
So if Thailand’s cool one day, hot the next, ’spicy lifestyle’ has wet your appetite, then you may need your own ‘Thai Girl’ experience. (See some of the postings below about this new book Thailand).
And you get 2 ‘insightful’ extra bonuses now… They are:

Goodbye… YouTube Thailand Lovers

What are we to do about this, friends?
Has YouTube been lost forever?
What does that little bit of Thai say and mean?
Why can’t we see YouTube?
Did I do something incredibly wrong?
What happened to the retirement Thailand party?
Do they know that some of us use YouTube for our business?
Yes, this is what happens when you try to view YouTube in
Thailand. You get a big white screen.
Why is everyone giggling at me?

Thailand Banks Give Good Baht

Thailand banks? Actually this is just an insight… into the wonderful world of Trang. It’s not officially a bank, rather an ATM. Or you might call it a mini money machine. Don’t you love ATMs? (Automatic teller machines).
They just give you money, when you ask. Nicely. What a great invention. Hey, you could call it a mini bank too…
So… I’m starting to throw in (to this blog) some of my local scenes, so you get an idea just what this town is like… But even better, would be if you could leave a comment and let me know just…
What You Want To
Know More About…
Because, that way I will know, and can write for you… and you can learn more about why Thailand is so great.
One day I’ll introduce some more Thailand banks photography. You’ll love it.
