I’ve been asking nearly every Thai girl I’ve met to teach me Thai.

Now, truth be told, perhaps I don’t really need to be taught Thai in so far as I already know it quite well. But there’s always words I want to learn, and always learning going on.

But I’ve noticed something. They kind of never end up teaching me Thai. At least the language (!) I guess what I do get is an insight into Thai culture… My longing request for more and more new Thai words fades into the nearest deep water well.

I think these Thai girls have a more important mission… to learn English, to understand English, the cute sounds, grunts, expressions and strange noises that foreigners make when they speak. That need to learn overtakes any teaching of Thai language to me, despite my pleadings. But there you go.
