Thai Music: Terrific Or Terrible?
Image by godchased via FlickrAs I’ve mentioned many times, the whole Thai culture (at least down here in the South) is awash with noise, also known as Thai music.
Now, some of it of course, is rather good, if not brilliant.
Some of it appears to hammer your eardrums… Emitted from a huge speakers on passing vehicles, the sounds reach through brick walls and can be heard kilometers away. They are apparently advertising something that everyone needs to know about…
Or it might be just your next door neighbor who wants to pump up his favorite songs. And his neighbor too. And the family next to that…
Then there’s local music bars, clubs, cafes and a couple of those massive TV screens that exist to show football adventures in extreme detail.
But wait! What about festivities? Think Thai music and dancers, a super-high decibel limit, and let’s tweak up the treble and the bass. And then we’ll mix it all together into a wall of sound so that all can enjoy the Thai experience.
This is how the Thais must like their Thai music.
Loud and lots of it.
I still recommend you visit Thailand, because it’s a wonderful country. You might, though, want to bring noise canceling headphones or earplugs…
And I’ll SEE you here soon.
